Museum Shop Sunday

An International Cultural Shopping Day

Join The Higgins Bedford to celebrate ‘Museum Shop Sunday’ on Sunday 25 November 2018.

Supported by the Association for Cultural Enterprises (ACE), Museum Shop Sunday invites members of the public to experience the inspirational gifts offered by cultural organisations nationwide.

‘Museum Shop Sunday’ promises to be a day to enjoy a relaxing and inspiring shopping experience after the chaos of Black Friday! The Higgins Bedford is very proud to be participating in the event for the first time this year, joining 100 other UK venues and over 600 venues across 10 countries worldwide.

The Higgins Bedford shop has a range of products inspired by the collections, exhibitions and events at the art gallery and museum, stocking cards, postcards, books and gifts as well as a bespoke range for exhibitions and a growing number of cards and gifts sourced from local makers.

On the day, The Higgins Bedford will be hosting an ‘Otter & Moose’ stall, showcasing a range of carefully curated gifts all made in Bedfordshire. There will also be a screen-printing workshop, run by artist Katie Allen, so visitors can make their very own bespoke festive tote bags.

There are also lots of exciting things for Christmas with festive felt toys and a tempting range of chocolate. The shop will be launching a range of gift boxes from ‘Otter & Moose’ with candles, soaps and chocolate all made here in Bedfordshire.

Visitors will also be able to purchase an ever-popular advent calendar by Angela Harding, Emily Sutton or Alice Melvin and Christmas cards with designs by Eric Ravilious, Emily Sutton, Richard Bawden and other printmakers.

Cllr Sarah-Jayne Gallagher said ‘Enjoying Museum Shop Sunday is a wonderful way to support your local museum and art gallery. As well as enjoying the wonderful gift shop, it’s also a chance to visit the Higgins itself and see the inspiring exhibitions and displays.’

Encouraging shopping with a conscience, sales made will contribute to each venue directly and provide a valuable contribution to culture in the UK.

Conscientious shopping will be part of everyone’s Christmas in 2018.

“Supported by the Association for Cultural Enterprises, the UK is excited to participate in this global event.

Following the huge success and buzz of 2017, the Association for Cultural Enterprises is proud to be part of this exciting venture for the second year running and is delighted to have the opportunity to encourage consumers far and wide to further discover the UK’s cultural shops and their fabulous product ranges.”
