  • Cervical Cancer Prevention Week


    Early diagnosis of cervical cancer is crucial – Cervical screening saves around 4,500 lives each year in the UK.

    In the UK, everyday around 9 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 2 lose their lives. 75% of Cervical Cancers can be prevented through Cervical Screening.

    As this is Cervical Cancer Prevention week (21 -27 January 2019), Public Health is encouraging all eligible women to get screened to detect cervical cancer at an early stage.

  • Road Junction Upgrades Across Bedford

    Bedford Borough Council has announced three significant changes to road junctions across Bedford.

    • On Goldington Green, mini roundabouts will be installed to make it easier for traffic to enter and leave Goldington Road
    • Traffic will able to enter River Street car park from Greyfriars, so people will no longer have to drive around St Paul’s Square to use this popular town centre car park

  • Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration

    Holocaust Memorial Day events will once again be taking place in Bedford, on Sunday 27th January.

    Holocaust Memorial Day is the international day to remember those killed under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

  • Increased Night time Shelter for Bedford’s Rough Sleepers

    Twenty overnight beds are now available to rough sleepers in our Borough.

    Working in partnership with SMART, who run the Prebend Day Centre and extended outreach services, the Council is providing twenty overnight beds which are available every night until 31st March.
