The Higgins Bedford is looking for volunteers to help with an upcoming project celebrating the 70thanniversary of the Empire Windrush ship arriving with immigrants from the Caribbean to England.
The museum team are hoping to collect stories and hear the experiences of people who arrived from the Caribbean and settled in Bedford as part of the Windrush Generation. These stories will form part of the upcoming exhibition ‘Paved with Gold’: Bedford’s Windrush Generation which will open in October 2018. The exhibition is being developed in partnership with the museum’s Black History Panel.
The museum is working in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire and Nubian Teachings to provide oral history training to volunteers assisting with the project. The first training day is on Monday 21st May 2018.
