Family Activities and Events at The Higgins Bedford this May Half-Term

During the Half-Term week, The Higgins Bedford are inviting families to a series of activities to entertain children aged 5 and above. Enjoy workshops, arts and crafts and exploring the galleries. Events start at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

Explore with Kevin the Platypus: Kevin the Platypus will guide young visitors through all the activities and events during half-term week on the 29th May, 30th May and 1st June. Kevin has been part of The Higgins Bedford’s history since joining the Bedford Modern School collection in Victorian times!

On Tuesday 29th May, join Kevin the Platypus in making creatures from clay inspired by the exhibitionBawden’s Beasts. Local artist Victoria Houghton will be on hand to introduce visitors to the fantastical shape-shifting beasts in the exhibition.

One of Kevin’s favourite stories about Cecil Higgins is that he had his Rolls Royce car specially adapted so that he could wear his top hat while driving! Join Kevin the Platypus on Wednesday 30thMay and make your very own personalised top hat and wear it as you explore the exhibitions and galleries at The Higgins Bedford.

Print a prehistoric design on a pencil case with inspiration from fossils and artefacts in the Settlement gallery with Kevin the Platypus at the Higgins Bedford on Friday 1st June.

Cllr Sarah-Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said “The Higgins Bedford, and Kevin the Platypus, has all sorts of activities for kids this half-term, with arts and crafts inspired by the museum fantastic exhibitions.”

All children must be accompanied by an adult and entry will cost £2.70 per child. Places can be booked in advance. To book, please purchase a ticket at The Higgins Bedford reception desk. Unfilled places will be offered on a first-come, first served basis on the day.
