Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Team

Bedford Borough Adult Safeguarding Team is the first point of contact for any adult safeguarding concern, or Deprivation of Liberty request. The team is a busy and motivated team which consists of advanced practitioners, social workers and support workers.

We view safeguarding as a key priority and are currently looking for a safeguarding advanced practitioner with knowledge and understanding of Adult Safeguarding practice and legislation, to screen and risk assess safeguarding concerns for appropriate action to be taken and provide advice to managers and frontline staff on safeguarding cases.

Adult Learning Disabilities Team

The ALDT is an integrated team of qualified social workers and learning disability nurses, providing diverse and creative support for adults with learning disabilities.

The Team focuses on what people can do, with support where necessary, rather than on what they cannot do. The service is operated by the integrated team is based on these principles:

  • legal and civil rights
  • independence
  • choice
  • inclusion

We encourage new and experienced practitioners, ensuring ASYE is adhered for the first year of practice for newly-qualified workers. Continued professional development and ongoing evidence of good practice and active learning is an essential aspect of professional practice in the team.

Hospital Social Work Team

The Hospital Social Work Team consists of social workers, support workers and reablement coordinators who are based at Bedford Hospital and provide services for patients who require help and support on discharge.

The team works in a fast paced, highly pressurised environment, working closely with the health trust to expedite timely discharges by keeping service users at the centre of all they do.

Applicants must have a good knowledge of relevant legislation particularly pertinent to hospital discharge as well as the Care Act 2014. An understanding of the complex issues that can affect the safe and timely discharge of patients from hospital is important. There is also a requirement to work flexibly over a seven day week to meet the needs of the service. 

You must be an excellent communicator and able to maintain relationships with key partners across the Acute Trust and the local Community Health Services.

Community Older People’s Team

The team is committed to providing a first class service to residents through timely and effective intervention. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, determined individuals to undertake a variety of work including assessments, reviews and safeguarding enquires in a fast paced, pressurised environment.

A good working knowledge of relevant legislation and government initiatives is required as well as the drive to commit to career development.

Physical Disabilities  / Visual Impairment Team

The Physical Disabilities and Visual Impairment Teams work with adults between the ages of 18 and 65 years. The team carries out assessments, identifies options, then agrees and reviews action plans to ensure the needs of the client and carer are met.

The team also undertakes safeguarding investigations, following Council policies and procedures, and undertakes mental capacity assessments, following best interests procedures where appropriate.
