Fly-tipping (dumped rubbish)

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish. This includes waste such as:

  • white goods (washing machines, fridges)
  • mattresses
  • builders’ rubble
  • garden refuse
  • household waste
  • carpet

Please tell us if you see someone dumping rubbish on public land or if you see dumped rubbish.

We strongly recommend you use the photo upload function in the form as this will help us more easily find the dumped items.

Dumping rubbish is a serious offence which can lead to those responsible receiving heavy fines and a prison sentence.

Caught on Camera

On our Caught on Camera webpage we are sharing CCTV images from new, portable CCTV cameras placed around fly-tipping hotspots and ask for your help in identifying people seen.

Fly-tipping on private land

We can investigate fly-tipping on both public and private land but we only clear from public land.

Clearing fly-tipping from private land is the responsibility of the landowner - this includes private shared alleyways between properties, housing association land and private garage areas.

If you are a private land owner you must ensure that your land is as secure as is practically possible to prevent people dumping rubbish on it.

We provide a chargeable fly-tipping removal service for businesses as part of our cleansing services for businesses.
