Vulnerable groups and the over 70s

We know that the pandemic has been a difficult time for everyone and recognise that it has been particularly hard for those who were previously identified as clinically extremely vulnerable to coronavirus.

There are things you can to do help keep yourself safe and minimise your exposure to the virus.

Vaccinations

The most effective form of protection from COVID-19, even for the most vulnerable, is vaccination.

The COVID-19 vaccines are effective for the majority of those who were previously identified as clinically extremely vulnerable and provide a significant amount of protection against the virus, including to those who are immunocompromised.

It is also important that other members of your household get vaccinated as this will lower your chances of catching COVID-19.

You may be offered a booster dose over the coming months to further increase your level of protection. You should take this when it is offered to you.

Read information from the NHS about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Looking after yourself

You can read the latest government guidance here, guidance for people previously considered clinically extremely vulnerable from COVID-19. This information is available in large print and other languages.

If your wellbeing is affected because of COVID-19, please visit the NHS website first. You can also read our advice and guidance on looking after your wellbeing during the pandemic.

Care homes

The Council’s Adults’ Services teams are working in partnership with care providers across the borough.

As care homes are unique in their physical layout and the needs of residents vary, each manager has completed an assessment to decide how their care home can best enable visiting. Please contact the home for more information before you visit.

Dementia and coronavirus

If you are living with, or supporting those with dementia, the Alzheimer's Society has coronavirus information for people affected by dementia including:

  • supporting a person with dementia at home
  • activity ideas for people living with dementia
  • support for a person with dementia living alone
  • supporting a person with dementia from a distance
