The Jobs Hub offers bespoke careers advice and guidance to people of all ages who live in Bedford Borough to find work, training and business opportunities.

Supported Employment Service

This is a specialist Supported Employment Service for adults with a learning disability. We support people to access employment and volunteering.

You will need to be referred to the service by the Adult Learning Disability Team at Bedford Borough Council who you can contact on 01234 276762.

Jobcentre work coach

A work coach at your local Jobcentre can help you find a job or gain new skills and tell you about disability friendly employers in your area.

They can also refer you to a specialist work psychologist, if appropriate, or carry out an ‘employment assessment’, asking you about:

  • your skills and experience
  • what kind of roles you’re interested in

Access to Work

Access to Work is a help to get support in work if you have a disability or health condition.

If you’re disabled or have a physical or mental health condition that makes it hard for you to do your job, you can:

  • talk to your employer about changes they must make in your workplace
  • get extra help from Access to Work, including mental health support

Bedford College

Bedford College has a range of professional part-time courses to support you to move your career on, whether you are looking to develop an existing role or begin a new one.

The Additional Learning Support Team are available to support students with a specific learning difficulty or disability or who are deaf or hearing impaired to make the most of your course.

Bedford College Learning Centre

Bedford College Learning Centre offers a wide range of computing courses for all levels from beginners to those who want to develop existing IT skills. Professional tutors and easy to follow learning materials ensure that you have all the support you require in order to succeed. It also offers training in job search and interview skills for those looking for work to help improve job hunting skills and interview performance.

Livability 

Livability is a disability charity that connects people with their communities. We run disability care services and community projects for all ages. Together with the people we support, we put the elements in place that all add up to liveable lives and communities.

Stables Christian Centre

Stables Christian Centre offers work-based training to small groups of vulnerable adults, including learning disabled, autistic, ex-offenders and those with mental health problems. It cares for five acres of woodland, hedges and meadow and grow herb and wildflower plants to sell. It also produces preserves, cards, jewellery and gifts. Open regularly to the public and welcomes visitors and volunteers.

Bedford Arts and Crafts Centre

Bedford Arts and Crafts Centre is a not for profit community interest company offering a wide range of arts and crafts courses in the day, evening and at weekends for adults of all ages and abilities. It recognises the importance and benefit learning can have on an individual for social, physical and wellbeing.

Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities helping people with learning disabilities get paid employment, and exploring the route to self-employment and small business ownership.
