Permit scheme

If you intend to carry out works on the road, you must apply for a permit scheme. Contact streetworks@bedford.gov.uk for advice or immediate works you're undertaking.

Permit schemes are a better way to manage works carried out on the road. They minimise disruption from unnecessary or badly controlled roadworks.

Other benefits:

  • improves journey times and reliability for all our road users
  • reduces the congestion caused by roadworks
  • improves the information available on works, including advanced warning and duration
  • increases the planning and control of works to improve safety and reduce damage to the road

East of England Permit Scheme (EEPS)

East of England Permit Scheme (EEPS) is a common Permit Scheme, developed by:

  • Bedford Borough Council
  • Hertfordshire County Council
  • Luton Borough Council
  • Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

It is applied to all the roads within its control.
