The easiest and quickest way to order a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate for an event that took place in Bedford Borough is to order online.

If you need a certificate for an event that took place between 1 April 1999 to 31 March 2009, please contact Central Bedfordshire Council Registration Service on 0300 300 8089 or email life.events@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.
Central Bedfordshire Council holds the registers for this period.
Postal strikes - August and September 2022
There are four days of industrial action planned for:
- Friday 26 August
- Wednesday 31 August
- Thursday 8 September
- Friday 9 September
If you need a certificate urgently, please include a statement in the section “It would help us if you would state the purpose for which the certificate is required” advising that your request is urgent.
A “priority” fee of £35.00 is payable which we take from you by telephone and will also advise you when and where your certificate may be collected.

Cost of certificates
A certificate will cost £11 per copy.
If you wish to make any corrections to a certificate, there will be an additional fee.

Delivery
Certificates are posted by Royal Mail second class post within 15 working days. Working days are Monday to Friday and do not include Bank holidays.
Although most certificates are delivered without issue, we are unable to offer any guarantees on the delivery of your certificate as we rely on the Royal Mail postage service.
We do not offer a collection or priority service.

Please note that the General Register Office (GRO) only holds records for Bedford Borough up to 31 December 2019.
